you can tell if a guy is gay by the way he has sex with other malesWell. This is just not correct and here is why I think that.
There’s a difference between sexual behaviour (in this case, a man having sex with men) and then sexual orientation (in this case, gay/homosexuality).
Having sex with the same gender doesn’t mean you are gay. It means that you had sex with the same gender. The opposite is also true. Having sex with the opposite gender doesn’t make you straight.
Generally, what makes you straight, gay, bi, asexual, pansexual, etc is more of your sexual orientation, which is someone’s attraction to a certain gender or sex, whether that be romantically, emotionally, physically, or sexually. Basically, it’s how you personally identify and not how society perceives you.
Yes, behaviour and identity do have a lot of overlap but that does not mean that the statement above is correct. Identity tends to influence behaviour and behaviour helps to define a person. But both behaviour and the reasons behind actions are complicated, as is identity. We aren’t just what we do, nor are we just one part of our identity.
As a whole and as individuals, we are complicated and messy and cannot be defined as just our actions or just our identities. We are more than just one or the other and we are more than the single story.
We are both how we act, how we identify, and our life experiences. But we are not just one of these.
Ultimately, the initial statement is woefully vague and incorrect.
But that’s just me. And I’m really tired of people not getting the different concepts right. And I realize that not everything I have stated will be right for everyone or that I got everything right. But that’s just how I see the world based on my experiences.
