My beginning to understanding race as a socially construction

This semester I am taking a class called Race and Ethnicity Relations. On the first day of class, we learn about how race is more of social construction rather than a biological reality.

So far, it has been a really interesting class, especially since I have never really though about race being socially constructed and I haven't really thought about the topic in too much depth.

Anyway, part of the class is writing a brief paper at the end of each week about the readings and incorporating what we've learned into modern events in US society. I plan to post the papers I write but I wanted to post a bit of a disclaimer: I identify as white and grew up in an upper middle class family. Thus, my thoughts and points in the papers I write for the class will come from that perspective.
